A Helpful Guide To Exploring the Beauty of Animal Flower Cave in St. Lucy, Barbados

Written by:

Island Greetings, fellow travelers! When it comes to choosing the perfect place to stay in Barbados, my bias leans towards Oistins Barbados. It offers proximity to all essentials—a variety of amenities, pristine beaches like Miami Beach, the renowned Oistins Friday Night Fish Fry, and the convenience of the airport. However, the island is a treasure trove of attractions in every parish. In St. Lucy Parish, an unmissable gem awaits your visit—the Animal Flower Cave.

Animal Flower Cave: A Unique Sea Cave Experience

Nestled within the cliffs of North Point, St. Lucy, the Animal Flower Cave stands as Barbados’ sole accessible sea cave. Descend through coral steps into the cave’s interior, where a mesmerizing world awaits. The cave boasts openings that overlook the vast sea, offering breathtaking vistas. Numerous pools dot the cave’s interior, some of which are deep enough for a refreshing swim. The name “Animal Flower Cave” derives from the sea anemones that grace the pools. These unique creatures retract their tentacles when touched. The cave walls are adorned with captivating formations, colored green and brown due to oxidation of copper and iron.

Easy Access and Delightful Cuisine

Barbados’ compact size allows you to traverse the entire island within hours, making your journey to St. Lucy a pleasant one. At Animal Flower Cave, a restaurant offers delectable food and beverages, providing a comfortable spot to dine outdoors. The menu boasts a diverse array of options, from succulent Jerk Chicken and Pork Belly to fresh seafood and a variety of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. While I haven’t personally dined at the location, the glowing reviews suggest it’s a delightful choice for a meal. Check out the complete menu here. Whether you opt to savor your own provisions or indulge in the on-site fare, your appetite will be well satisfied.

Location and Journey

St. Lucy Parish graces the island’s northern point. If departing from our condos, follow this path: Turn right onto Lower Carters Gap, continue straight until you reach Enterprise Road (Highway 7), make a left, and drive until you reach Top Rock roundabout. Take the third exit to Errol Barrow Highway, which transitions into Highway number 2. Follow it until it becomes Charles Duncan O’Neil Highway, which further transforms into Highway 1B and then Highway 1C. As Highway 1C becomes Animal Flower Cave Rd, you’ll arrive at your destination.
